Licence verification

To keep evee safe for both renters and hosts, we ask renters to complete identity verification before booking. This is what a traditional car rental agency would do at the counter. We use Stripe Identity as part of this process because it helps confirm that the person making the booking is the same person shown on the ID they submit .

In most cases, licence verification is quick and completed in one step. You will usually be asked to submit your valid driver licence and a live selfie. Stripe explains that its verification flow checks government ID documents and compares the document photo with the selfie to confirm that the ID belongs to the person completing the verification.

How licence verification works

  1. You submit your valid driver licence.

  2. You take a live selfie when prompted.

  3. The system reviews the information automatically.

  4. If everything matches, your verification is completed.

For the best chance of success:

  • Make sure your licence is current, clear, easy to read, and photographed in colour.

  • Use original images rather than screenshots, and that documents should not be cropped or cut off.

  • Make sure you take the licence out of the wallet or any other protective layer.

  • Make sure your don't wear accessories, or headwear for improved selfie matching results

Safety restrictions:

  • Digital licences are not currently accepted due to their susceptibility to forgery.

  • The same licence cannot be used on more than one evee account.

If your verification does not go through

If your verification is not approved straight away, it does not always mean there is a problem with your account. Sometimes the image is unclear, the details do not scan properly, or the document format needs extra review.

If this happens, please contact evee support. We may ask you to complete another verification step so our team can review the case manually.

Edge cases for some overseas licences

A small number of licence types can require manual review even when the documents are valid.

Hong Kong driver licences

Honk Kong licences do not have a photo so you need to complete an extra verification step

  1. Submit the verification using your Hong Kong driver licence

  2. Submit another verification using your Hong Kong national ID

  3. Get in touch with our support team via the chat and request a manual review quoting your email address on the evee account.

Dutch driver licences

Some Dutch licence verifications can be flagged incorrectly during automatic review. If this happens, please

  1. Submit another verification using your passport

  2. Get in touch with our support team via the chat and request a manual review quoting your email address on the evee account.

What to send support

If we ask for manual review, please include the following in your message so we can help faster.

  • Full name on your evee account

  • Email address on your evee account

  • Licence type

  • Short note

  • Travel date if urgent
