Your security deposit
A security deposit is authorised on your default payment method 24 hours before the commencement of your booking. This is not a charge β it is a pre-authorisation hold to ensure funds are available if needed.
The security deposit also ensures you have an active card on file for the duration of your rental, in compliance with our insurance requirements. There can be weeks or even months between the time you book and the time you travel, so this check is performed close to the start of the rental.
The process
Authorisation: 24 hours before the start of your booking, evee authorises a pre-authorisation hold on your default payment method.
Rental period: The pre-authorisation remains in place throughout your rental.
Post rental: 48 hours after the completion of your rental, provided the vehicle is returned in its original condition with no reported damage, the pre-authorisation is released.
Bank statement: The pending transaction will disappear from your bank statement within 5β10 business days, depending on your bank's policies.
What if damage is reported?
If your host reports damage upon the return of the vehicle, evee will capture your security deposit. The captured amount is applied towards the damage liability applicable to your rental β it is not refunded once a damage claim is raised.
If major damage is sustained and a claim is required, your security deposit will be deducted from the remaining damage liability amount.
Insufficient funds
If you do not have sufficient funds when the pre-authorisation is attempted, our system will automatically retry the transaction multiple times. Your host will be notified if the security deposit fails to process, and the booking cannot proceed.
If funds are available but you are still experiencing issues, please contact us via the chat icon at the bottom of this page.
