Vehicle damage during a rental

Damage Resolution Process

If damage occurs to the vehicle during your rental, please report it to your host as soon as possible.

Depending on the severity of the damage, it may be resolved privately between the host and renter (minor damage), or require an insurance claim to be lodged (major damage).

If your host reports damage to the vehicle, evee will capture the security deposit previously authorised and contact you to initiate a damage assessment. During this process, evee acts as a neutral third party, reviewing evidence from both the host and renter to determine liability.

If you are found not to be at fault, the captured security deposit will be refunded at the conclusion of the assessment.

Minor Damage

Minor damage is generally considered to be damage with a repair cost under $500. In these cases, the host will arrange private repairs or touch-ups, and the cost will be on-charged as an extra charge within the booking. A copy of the repair tax invoice will be provided by your host.

Minor damage does not need to be reported to evee and can be resolved directly between the renter and host. If you require a copy of your rental agreement, please reach out to us via the chat icon at the bottom of this page with your booking number and we will provide this for you.

The following are considered minor damage:

  • Small dents or dings that do not affect the overall shape of the vehicle and can be repaired with touch-up services

  • Scratches and paint chips that do not expose bare metal and can be fixed with touch-up paint or polishing

  • Bumper scuffs that can be repaired through a touch-up service

  • Minor interior damage resolved with touch-ups or small part replacements

  • Windscreen chips, cracks, and replacements

  • Rim damage and wheel scrapes

  • Damage to charging equipment supplied by your host

Major Damage

Damage is considered major when it goes beyond cosmetic repair and involves more significant or severe incidents that affect the safety, functionality, or structural integrity of the vehicle.

The following are considered major damage:

  • Frame or structural damage that compromises the vehicle's integrity, performance, or safety

  • Extensive dents, crumpled panels, or areas where the body is significantly bent or misshapen

  • Major interior damage requiring integral part replacement (e.g. console replacement)

Please report any damage that is not minor as soon as you become aware of it by completing our Damage Submission Form.

Damage Liability and Associated Costs

Major repairs that require an insurance claim will be subject to the Damage Liability Fee. The amount of the damage liability depends on the market value of the vehicle, its type, and other factors. The specific damage liability for each vehicle is listed on its respective listing page.

Damage Involving a Third Party
